Cherry Dole Whip Delight: A Magical Taste Test at Disney

A new food treat, perfect for the Florida heat, is currently available at Epcot’s Refreshment Outpost. For those of you unfamiliar with Refreshment Outpost, it is located in Epcot’s World Showcase, just past the China pavilion on the left-hand side of the walkway.  You will often hear children (and adults) playing the drums while you place your order. 

At $6.50, Cherry Dole whip is a perfect light summer treat if you prefer a sweet, slightly tart treat with a hint of vanilla. Cherry Dole Whip has a rich, not artificial cherry taste, and is most similar to natural cherry flavor. 

Cherry Dole whip is available as a stand alone treat or as a swirl with pineapple. Since we are cherry fans, and Cherry Dole whip was new to us, we tried the cherry only and found it to be delicious.

We rated it a 9 out of 10.  A suggested improvement would be to include chunks of cherries to add texture and authenticity.  Despite the 90-degree heat, Cherry Dole Whip did not melt as quickly as anticipated. 

Cherry Dole Whip tastes like a soft ice cream, not as rich as compared to gelato.  Surprisingly, the Cherry Dole whip continued to be refreshing and did not take on the cough syrup flavor often associated with cherry food items. We did not get sick of eating it as we got to the bottom of our cup. We could easily have eaten a second serving as this treat was both unique and delicious.

Disney World cast members currently estimate that 40% of their guests order Cherry Dole Whip only, with another 40% ordering the swirl of the Cherry and Pineapple Dole Whip.  The remaining 20% order only Pineapple Dole Whip.

Disney cast members report overall positive feedback for Cherry Dole Whip.  This treat is a perfect way to beat the Florida heat, whether at Disney or at home.
